June Norcross Webster's

Maple Syrup Production Program

Come help, learn and have the opportunity to earn a unique JNW Maple Syrup Patch.

We are looking for units to assist with maple syrup production, which runs from February to mid-March.

Classes & participation will depend on age & time in the season. Scouts may learn how to tap, run lines, boil syrup, and more.

Our Maple Festival is the 3rd weekend in March. With maple syrup production, demonstrations, a pancake breakfast, games, and much more. JNW's own maple syrup will be for sale. Come be a part of this exciting, educational New England tradition! (See Above).

About

Tom brought his evaporator to the camp in 2019. It was set up in the blacksmith shop at the camp. The first year, there were 113 total taps into the old-fashioned metal buckets. The program continued to grow through the years. Sap tubing was added to the program the next year. In 2024, two vacuum pumps were added to the program. The current program has approximately 300 total taps.

The current sugarhouse was built in 2023 by the Friends of Webster. Many thanks to the Friends of Webster for supporting the maple syrup program. We are members of the Maple Syrup Producers of Connecticut.

Special recognitions

We are currently one of 13 recognized bird-friendly maple producers in Connecticut.

Tom Sorrell is one of the Eastern Region District Directors for Connecticut maple sugar producers.
